Winning: Trippin for VA

This fall we helped our local partner New Virginia Majority turn Virginia blue. For the first time since 1993 Democrats have full control of state legislature. They also now have the ability to enact new gun laws, fair voting initiatives and criminal justice reforms. We’re proud to be a small part of this years-long effort in Virginia.

Virginia is turning blue. We’re gonna help.

In 2017 Dems won all 3 top state offices and captured 15 house seats. In a historic year VA elected their first transgender legislator, first out-lesbian legislator, first two latinx women to state General Assembly and placed 25 women into state government for the first time ever. All of this progress and yet Dems came up short on controlling state government by 2 seats….

In 2019, 140 seats are up for grabs across VA’s Senate and House, and we’re traveling to help support progressive candidates and causes:

  • Gun Control

  • Equal Rights Amendment

  • Decriminalizing Marijuana

Our Local Partner

On the ground in VA we’ll be partnering with New Virginia Majority, a local leader in kicking ass up and down the ballot in 2017. Led by local policy influencer Tram Nguyen, New Virginia has established a strong coalition of black & brown communities and local government officials. We’ll be working alongside them, knocking on doors in the run up to this very important election.

When we arrive in a state to work with a local partner organization we’re following their lead. We carefully partner with local orgs that share our values, and while in-state we fully adopt their plans, priorities and tactics. We know that the most lasting change is driven by local citizens.
